Quint Wilson Visit

Quint Wilson, one of the original Rocket Boys from the movie October Sky was the speaker for AARG's December public outreach event. The day's events were held at the Austin Children's Museum. On Saturday morning Quint presented a overview of the real "backstory" behind October Sky from the viewpoint of someone who was there. After lunch, a make-it take-it session ran upstairs concurrent with a rocketry display in the museum rotunda.

Part of the fundraising to support the event was a dinner at La Morada restaurant where the attendees had a chance to talk with Quint.

The Presentation

Quint's presentation was held in the museum audiorium for a crowd of about 45 AARG members and visitors. Because of the logistics, rockets provided by members for the display had to be stored in the auditorium until noon. Quint entertained the crowd with stories from the true adventures of the Rocket Boys, and answered many questions from audience members young and old.

The Rocket Display

After the talk, the rockets moved out into the museum rotunda. Visitors could view rockets of all sizes, pick up a free issue of Sport Rocketry (thanks NAR HQ), watch a rocket video, and chat with Quint Wilson.
