World Record Rocket Launch

On Saturday May 12, 2007 Cub Scout Pack 990 and Boy Scout Troop 990 set a new world record for the largest number of model rockets launched at one time. 1000 rockets were prepped and 965 actually flew, beating the old record by 566 rockets. Former AARG President Jeff Short was instrumental in helping the Scouts and their leaders pull together the resources and technology to make the launch a success. AARG VP Jason Koliba and members Mark Willett and Jim Jarvis helped the scouts with the logistics of setting up pads.

Before the flight, U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul and Austin City Council Member Lee Leffingwell addressed the crowd. The event was covered by CNN, major networks, and local news outlets. The story appeared on CBS Evening News.

The Scouts will submit the official paperwork to Guinness World Records and should know within a few months whether the event is recognized as an official record-setting launch.
