AARG Meeting

January 26, 2006

Meeting started at 7:30 PM

Rick V. announced there is a new official Tripoli magazine, Rockets. The first issue will likely be March. There will be six issues/year. To order go to http://www.libertylaunchsystems.com

LDRS will be in Amarillo this year. It is the 25th anniversary and will be well-attended and a spectacular event. For anyone planning to attend and wanting motel/hotel accomodations, it is imperative that you make them ASAP. There is another convention in Amarillo that weekend and rooms are going fast.

A discussion point was raised with regard to AARG members running one 2-hr shift at LDRS. We would need to have 9 volunteers. It remains an open item, and anyone interested should get in touch with Jeff S. so he can maintain a list.

James D. brought up a discussion point with regard to flying the Hawk at LDRS possibly with a commercial motor so that it would not have to be launched on an EX day and likely to be able to have more participation of club members as it would be launched on a weekend day and not an EX launch on a weekday. The discussion remains open.

The "away site" at LDRS will be runn off the AARG wireless system.

Officer elections - by voice vote all officers from 2005 were elected for 2006.

  • President - Jeff Short
  • Prefect - Rick VanVoorhis
  • Vice President - Stu Barrett
  • Secretary - Deb Randolph
  • Treasurer - Lou Catozzi
  • Senior Advisor - Alex Mericas
  • Junior Advisor - Mollyanne Fitzpatrick
  • Contest Director - David Bellhorn

NSL this year will be in Waco on Memorial Day weekend. Rick V. pointed out that if anyone is planning a "large project," to let DARS know and they will feature the project on the web site. ( NSL 2006.org )

At the current time the burn ban is still in effect. There will be a commissioner's meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 31 with regard to a possible lifting of the ban. We will not know the outcome until Wednesday, so there will be a very short notice if we get permission to launch this weekend. Jeff S. will send out an announcement as soon as there is a decision.

Rick V. will find out how long we will be able to continue to fly at Hutto. Right now it is likely that we will be able to do so until mid-March.

The treasurer's report indicated that several members are overdue in their dues. All members are encouraged to bring their membership up to date. Currently the treasury stands at $1,097.
