AARG Meeting

January 12, 2002

Austin Area Rocketry Group had its annual meeting on January 12, 2002. Approximately 35 people attended.

Officer elections

The following were elected as the new officers:

  • President: David Urban
  • Vice President and Tripoli Prefect: Rick Van Voorhis
  • Treasurer: Lou Catozzi
  • Secretary: Jim Parker
  • NAR Senior Adviser: Luis Salinas

Pflugerville Pflying Pfield

We are going to lose PPP soon. Rick Van Voorhis has secured another field. It is a seasonal field because of farming. It will allow up to K impulse. He is also working on a year-round K impulse field. James Duffy has two possible fields that he is investigating. Rick Van Voorhis will see if we can make an arrangement to use the field at McGregor. Any other ideas about launch sites are welcome.

Treasury

The year-end 2001 bank account balance was $1.047.51. Annual dues are now due. They are $12/adult. Children are free.

Launch schedule

AARG will have a major launch in March to say goodbye to PPP. It will be a two day launch with vendors on site. LDRS is in Amarillo July 11-14 (general public) and 15-16 (EX only). It is shaping up to be the biggest and best model rocket launch week ever since the beginning of time and even before that. Many special projects have announced that they will be there, including the AARG Hawk project. Look at http://www.ldrs21.org/ for more information. NARAM will be at McGregor August 4-9. Both sport and high power launching will be available in addition to the usual NARAM contests. Look at http://www.naram2002.org/Index2.ASP for more information.

NARCON

A tentative schedule for NARCON presentations was distributed. Recent news includes confirmation of West Systems and Peter Alway as conference presenters. Approximately 30 people and 6 vendors are currently registered for NARCON. See http://www.narcon2002.org for more information.

Trailer

AARG needs a trailer. The club has a lot of equipment, but some of it is unused because it is scattered among too many garages. It is also an unfair imposition to require one person to have to haul all the launch equipment to and from the site because he happens to live a few blocks away. A fund was established to buy a trailer. Donations, small or large, are welcome.

T-shirts

AARG needs to buy more of its impressive T-shirts to sell at the various, upcoming events. There were 50 T-shirts in the first order. All adult T-shirts have been sold, and seven children's T- shirts are left. $500 was authorized for the purchase of more T- shirts, with an emphasis to be on adult sizes. Lou Catozzi (lpcat@us.ibm.com) has the AARG T-shirts.

Website

AARG.org is no longer the American Association of Retired Geezers. It is now ours, and it is operational. All the information from the old website has been transferred to the new one.

Nonprofit status

Obtaining formal nonprofit status was discussed. No decisions were reached.
