Launch Site Directions

These sites are not available for rocket activities at any time other than scheduled AARG launches.

Check the AARG launch list for information on which site will be used for a specific launch. Generally, we fly from the Hippodrome from October to February and other months at the Granger Lake field, but be sure to check the email list for updates. Our flying location depends on when the the crops are planted and harvested at the Hutto field.

The Hutto Hippodrome Field

This field is M capable and generally available in fall and winter when not planted in corn (approximately October to February). Please provide advance notice to the AARG Vice President if you plan an M motor flight. The field address is 703 County Road 368, Taylor, TX 76574.

Directions:

• From the intersection of US79 and 1660 in Hutto continue east on US 79 for 3.8 miles to Frame Switch.
• Turn north on CR 101 (paved) that is just past Blackland Guns on the north side of the road.
• Drive north on this paved road for 3.0 miles to a four corners intersection.
• Turn east onto a paved road and drive 0.7 miles to a driveway on the north side of the road.
• Turn into driveway and drive 0.9 miles to a minor stream crossing. The launch site is on your left.

The Granger Lake Field

Sometimes referred to as Sunflower Ranch, this field is I capable. Waiver altitude for this field is 6000 feet. The field is open pasture land that is usable year-round, but we fly from this field only when the Hippodrome field is unavailable. The address is 4180 FM 1331, Taylor, TX 76574. The field is located south of road 1331 near Granger Lake.

Directions:

• From Austin, take highway 79 East to Taylor (stop for BBQ optional)
• Take highway 95 North from Taylor to Circleville
• Take highway 1331 East from Circleville 3.9 miles. Landmark: water treatment facility at 3.7 miles
• The first trailer home on the right past the water treatment facility is the field location.
• Follow the gravel driveway around the right side of the house (they are the owners of the field) and into the open field. The field is clearly visible from the roadway.
